Climate change is increasing pressure on infrastructure, food systems, water security, public health and national budgets across the Global South. Declining official development assistance increases the need for stronger domestic institutions and new forms of cooperation.
Diaspora scientists, engineers, investors, entrepreneurs, researchers and policy professionals bring knowledge, capital and international networks. Their contributions support adaptation planning, clean energy, resilient infrastructure, water management, climate-smart agriculture, disaster preparedness and green industrial development.
DCI helps countries establish clear pathways for translating diaspora engagement into sustained climate action.
Our focus
Climate readiness
We assess national policies, institutions, coordination systems and delivery capacity for diaspora climate engagement.
Expertise and networks
We help identify diaspora professionals and connect their skills with priorities set by governments, cities, universities, businesses and communities.
Climate finance and investment
We examine routes for diaspora investment, philanthropy, blended finance and climate-project preparation.
Knowledge and technology transfer
We support research partnerships and practical collaboration in renewable energy, agriculture, water, transport, cities and disaster-risk reduction.
Local capacity and accountability
We emphasize measurable delivery, transparent governance and skills retained by local institutions.
Diaspora Climate Readiness Index
The Diaspora Climate Readiness Index measures country readiness to engage diaspora expertise and partnerships for climate action. DCRI examines institutional structures, professional networks, research collaboration and evidence of diaspora-supported climate initiatives.
DCRI identifies strengths, gaps and practical priorities. Scores do not measure overall climate performance, emissions reductions, climate-finance volumes or future resilience.
